Born and schooled on the East Rand of Johannesburg he entered the University Of Natal in 1982, where he read for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws (Shipping and International Commerce) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law.

He completed articles of clerkship with Law Firm Shepstone & Wylie and started practice as an Advocate in 1992 at the Natal Bar, practising as a commercial practitioner. In 2005 he joined an engineering/mining house as their general legal counsel/adviser, providing a broad range of advice to the executive and business units, encompassing all aspects of business, including financing matters. 

Adv. Chrystal has travelled extensively on business, notably in Africa, and is well versed in highly regulated industries and have dealt with commercial matters, including contracts, due diligence's to closing, listings, and governance in the multinational field and across different legal jurisdictions. 

In addition, he has sat on boards of companies and has acted in fiduciary capacities over the last 20 years. He has also sat as a Referee in the High Court, Exercising its Admiralty Jurisdiction, on a Section 5 (3) of Act 105 of 1983 appointment.

Dave qualified as a Professional Accountant (SA) in 1987. He Joined a Corporate Finance Company after qualifying where he got the first taste of Venture Capital. Dave became the Financial Director and later, the Managing Director of Equivest, a Venture Capital Group.


During 1991, Dave established his own Venture Capital Company which was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange on the 25th of November 1997. REF Finance and Investment Corporation Ltd focussed on the ICT industry. Highlights of this company include being ranked 21st in a Business Times Top 100 Companies survey during 1998, ranked the 40th fastest growing company in South Africa, with investors receiving a 1,800% return over a five year period.


During 2005, Dave bought into Isibane Holdings (Pty) Ltd, formed a Private Equity company called Isibane Capital Ltd and was elected as the Joint CEO. 2009 saw the merger of the company with Pulse Private Equity.


In 2012 Dave founded the Caban Group of Companies to help entrepreneurs succeed by providing a comprehensive service offering to small businesses as risk in return for equity. The success of this model lead to the founding of Caban Capital, the Group Holding company, in the UK through which the business model is being applied internationally.


Dave’s passion for developing entrepreneurs often takes him out of the boardroom and into the local communities where he can be found offering advice as well as creating innovative solutions to the funding requirements of public benefit organisations. He has over the course of his career helped hundreds of companies to get started.

Ashley is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) with a number of years’ experience in financial services including Investment Banking, Corporate Finance and Private Equity amongst others gained in South Africa and some Southern African countries. He has a developed and astute business acumen with an entrepreneurial flair coupled with experience at senior management and executive level management including recent commercial roles as CEO and Executive Director. 


He also has experience as a non-executive board member including recent roles as Audit Committee and Board Chairperson at the CTICC and has completed a Director Development and Induction Programme presented by KPMG as well as an Audit Committee Training Programme.

Ashley is currently completing the Mphil postgraduate studies at St Augustine College with majors in the fields of Applied Ethics and Theology.

Ben Botes is an Entrepreneur, Speaker, Writer, Coach and academic. He is the founder of My1stBusiness.com and SA Business Plan and StartMe 4 web portals dedicated to entrepreneurs. He is also the Co-founder of Investors Network , Business support Hubs and incubators. He is considered to be one of SA’s new leading thinkers on the Coaching of entrepreneurs and small business leadership. His specialisms are Entrepreneur and leadership development, individual and organisational learning, business innovation, personal transformation, and team dynamics. Ben holds Master degrees in Psychology and Business Administration as well as qualifications in coaching and mentoring. Ten years ago, Ben became the youngest president of the European Coaching Institute, a body that promotes professional standards and accreditation for coaching and coach training providers in Europe. He is the author of numerous books and e-books on a number of small business issues, and has been featured in articles by The Guardian, The Times and the Wall Street Journal for Europe newspapers. Ben is also currently an associate lecturer in Business Start-up and Small Business Management at Middlesex University.


Ben's current projects concentrates on the provision and improvement of online networks and resources for first time business leaders and entrepreneurs and have consulted on these issues for organisations such as Accenture, Hewlett-Packard, Business Link UK, The Prince’s Trust and Shell. He also works as a Coach for a large range of small and medium size enterprises on strategy and innovation, knowledge management, personal effectiveness and network and support system development.


In 2000, after five years as a Management Consultant and Executive Coach, Ben moved to London from South Africa where he trained as a consultant with the consulting firm and think-tank Future Coaching, spending much of his time working on strategy, innovation and Futures & Scenario Planning with large clients such as HMI, an international hospitality and Leisure Company and the Ministry of Defence. Further work with corporate clients included the development and implementation of cultural diversity and leadership development programs in post-apartheid South Africa for ABSA Bank, Brilliant Business Systems and Toyota.

Bongani Mthombeni-Möller has a Masters in Chemical Engineering and a project management background. She’s an entrepreneur that’s passionate about engineering business, and has been primarily focused on conducting business in the energy sectors.


After completing her Masters’ thesis, titled “Modelling Fischer Tropsch Synthesis in Slurry Reactor Systems”, she consulted on a number of water purification projects as an independent consultant, as well as on modelling the Conversion of Olefins to Distillates” at PetroSA. After joining INTENS Engineering Solutions, Bongani has been focused on growing the engineering business, by increasing the business offerings to include Renewable Energy and the Oil & Gas sector. In addition to business development activities, Bongani has directed a number of the projects that have required a strategic combination of:

  • stakeholder engagement (both public and private sectors);
  • project development;
  • process engineering;
  • modelling & optimization;
  • financial viability and bank-ability;
  • project management and;
  • socio-economic development.


Having worked in the Oil & Gas sector on a refinery, and through experience in business development, Bongani and has an in-depth understanding of the hydrocarbon industry and petroleum market value-chain. Through understanding the fundamental and core process engineering affiliated with these processes, Bongani effectively performs a management role in ensuring that the end-objectives are realized effectively and thoroughly.


Understanding the changing energy trends, Bongani has developed a strategic business plan focused on more renewable technologies.  A number of the projects have included converting waste to two of the most needed commodities globally (energy and fuel). The projects have the mandatory and strategic focus on implementing the necessary engineering capability and technology with excellence, securing the required feedstock for a sustainable period (by implementing stakeholder engagement strategies for both public and private sectors), negotiating and securing sustainable end-product off-take agreement, ensuring financial viability and profitability, and developing and implementing strategic and project-specific corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives.


Bongani is passionate about people and targets the execution of projects that have, in addition to financial viability and engineering execution, the potential to contribute to social upliftment and social development. She is particularly passionate about youth development, and is actively involved in education and empowerment initiatives to encourage and contribute to the reinstatement of integrity in communities. She addresses at a number of Women in Engineering Conferences annually, whose delegates range from matriculants interested in studying engineering to professionals interested in Engineering Business. “I believe that every single one of us, has the responsibility to impart knowledge, the lessons we've learnt, and the experiences we've had to those who are walking the same road that we once walked. This allows us to minimize the obstacles and possibly mitigate the risks that our younger counterparts have to face”, says Bongani.

James H Anderson was educated at Edinburgh and Glasgow Academies.  He then studied at Aberdeen University, where he gained an LL.B in 1966, and then at Glasgow University in 1967 where after he obtained the institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland qualification in 1969.


He joined Unilever Ltd in London as part of the British Universities key intake for management program and was transferred to South Africa initially as Manager Internal Audit and thereafter promoted to the position of Financial Manager for an operating subsidiary, involved in all aspects of brand management, product development and financial control and reporting.


In 1972 he joined Western Bank as the Regional Accountant for Johannesburg, Northern Transvaal and Free State. He was tasked to integrate and standardize the Banks accounting and computer systems and to run the largest Regional administration. This was completed in three years and he was then promoted to Group Financial Manager. That year Western Bank was taken over by Anglo American and then by Barclays Bank. He was then appointed to work with Barry Swart of Barclays to integrate the two banks.


In 1975 he joined Ryan Nigel Ltd which was the top listed company on the JSE and was appointed Financial Director six months later. His responsibilities were expanded to include management of the Corporate Finance and Investment Divisions, which he ran for two years until the company was taken over by Standard Bank Ltd.


He joined National Acceptances Ltd as a director and founding shareholder, and was responsible for developing the Corporate Finance Division from inception, which specialized in mergers and acquisitions, company re-constructions, project finance and investments. This team grew to be one of the most respected corporate finance teams in South Africa.


He has been the Managing Director of Rand Reef Investments Limited since inception in 1983.  The company offers Financial, Marketing and Strategic Consultancy, and Corporate Financial Services to a wide range of individual and corporate clients.  Clients have included Murray and Roberts, Toyota, Barlows and certain substantial private groups.


He was senior Group Marketing Consultant for ABSA Merchant Bank (“AMB”) a division of the largest SA bank for five years, with a mandate to develop both local and international business in which period “AMB” grew substantially.


 Transactions included the purchase of Cutfin bank for ABSA, structuring and core acquisitions for DiData, E.D.S SA, Murray and Roberts, Bell listing, Winhold restructure. James was also the Merchant Banking adviser to the North West Government.


He re-commenced the Rand Reef Investments financial consultancy business in 1998, offering Consulting, Corporate Financial and Project Finance services including property, to listed clients, SME’s, and BBBEE clients.


The company also advises clients on funding, governance and strategy, including listings and turnarounds.


He is also an independent Non-Executive Director and has served on six listed company boards and other substantial Companies, on several occasions as Chairman of the Audit Committee and as acting Managing Director.


He is a DIP. Wits and is a member of the IOD and IASSA and a member of Johannesburg Rotary .

Aged 56, Ruben qualified as a blue collar tradesman who miraculously navigated his way to the upper echelons of academia, business, civil society, corporate and government in South Africa. He channels his philanthropic energies through the Ruben Richards Foundation – a non-profit organisation – founded in 2012. His Foundation, which was recently visited by Britain’s Prince Harry, is also the recipient of the 2015 Reconciliation Award conferred by the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation for its community development work in marginalised and traumatised communities. Ruben is a published author and much sought after public speaker who holds qualifications in mechanical engineering and experience as both a tradesman and CEO of one of South Africa’s largest marine and heavy engineering companies. Ruben has earned post-graduate degrees from Switzerland and the USA, including a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Cape Town. 


His overall experience encompasses a wide range of professional disciplines. He has held positions such as visiting Professor (both in South Africa and the USA), Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Advisory Board of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He served under the leadership of Archbishop Desmond Tutu as the Executive Secretary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa and was Deputy Director-General (DDG) of the now disbanded Scorpions (i.e. South Africa's FBI). Mark has over 25 years’ experience in technical planning, budgeting and film schedule organisation of major live events. He has worked in many facets of the industry from technical to production – specialising in producing/directing live broadcast and events.


Mark was the first production co-ordinator at M-NET for Outside Broadcasts, planning and budgeting major local & international productions i.e. Miss South Africa,  Miss World; various music concerts, and major sporting events. In 1994 Mark, in partnership, founded Van-Man Productions when they were awarded the K-T.V. contract. Mark budgeted, planned and produced three K-TV road-shows into Africa - this also included choreographing the shows.  Mark was the Technical Director for South Africa’s first ever Community Channel in September 1998 and a partner, supervising producer and financial director of Crazy Communications - Craz-e on e.tv.

Tony was born and raised in London where he excelled as a musician before moving into the corporate world. He first worked for a firm of chartered accountants while simultaneously completing a BTEC in Management and Business Studies . To appease his entrepreneurial spirit he left his career in the finance sector and embarked on what has proven to be highly successful sales career. He set up an office supply company specialising in faxes and photocopiers. There after he moved into the recruitment industry working with the likes of London Underground and leading firms in The City.


On moving to South Africa he re-entered the corporate world working in the finance and credit management industry before setting up a head hunting business where he led a team that developed in house recruitment software called Rocket Software – www.rocketsoftware.co.za. He also set up a junior mining company. Tony is still active in the music industry and was awarded a South African Music Award in 2013 for his current group.


Tony heads up the sales for Caban Enterprises and is the Sales Director of the Entrepreneur Expo.

Mzukisi ‘Mzu’ Lembeni is the driving force behind Imizamo Yethu Tours. He is the owner and tour operator of Imizamo Yethu Township Tours. He has a strong passion for tourism and has gained much experience with tourism throughout his career starting in 1998. He has worked for different hotels around Cape Town, Two Oceans Aquarium, the Castle of Good Hope and City Sightseeing Cape Town on the red topless buses.


He received a tertiary education from University of South Africa in Tour Operation Management. He attended College of Cape Town in 2007 where he studied for three years both tourism management and tour operations. He has also received a Tourism Certificate from the Western Cape as a certified Western Cape Tour Guide and Eastern Tour Guide. He is a Qualified Magician.


He has a great passion for community development in Khayelitsha and is developing an entrepreneurship programme with Caban to accelerate entrepreneurship in the area. He is always wearing a smile and exuding infectious optimism.
