Bongani Mthombeni-Möller has a Masters in Chemical Engineering and a project management background. She’s an entrepreneur that’s passionate about engineering business, and has been primarily focused on conducting business in the energy sectors.

After completing her Masters’ thesis, titled “Modelling Fischer Tropsch Synthesis in Slurry Reactor Systems”, she consulted on a number of water purification projects as an independent consultant, as well as on modelling the Conversion of Olefins to Distillates” at PetroSA. After joining INTENS Engineering Solutions, Bongani has been focused on growing the engineering business, by increasing the business offerings to include Renewable Energy and the Oil & Gas sector. In addition to business development activities, Bongani has directed a number of the projects that have required a strategic combination of:

  • stakeholder engagement (both public and private sectors);
  • project development;
  • process engineering;
  • modelling & optimization;
  • financial viability and bank-ability;
  • project management and;
  • socio-economic development.

Having worked in the Oil & Gas sector on a refinery, and through experience in business development, Bongani and has an in-depth understanding of the hydrocarbon industry and petroleum market value-chain. Through understanding the fundamental and core process engineering affiliated with these processes, Bongani effectively performs a management role in ensuring that the end-objectives are realized effectively and thoroughly.

Understanding the changing energy trends, Bongani has developed a strategic business plan focused on more renewable technologies.  A number of the projects have included converting waste to two of the most needed commodities globally (energy and fuel). The projects have the mandatory and strategic focus on implementing the necessary engineering capability and technology with excellence, securing the required feedstock for a sustainable period (by implementing stakeholder engagement strategies for both public and private sectors), negotiating and securing sustainable end-product off-take agreement, ensuring financial viability and profitability, and developing and implementing strategic and project-specific corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives.

Bongani is passionate about people and targets the execution of projects that have, in addition to financial viability and engineering execution, the potential to contribute to social upliftment and social development. She is particularly passionate about youth development, and is actively involved in education and empowerment initiatives to encourage and contribute to the reinstatement of integrity in communities. She addresses at a number of Women in Engineering Conferences annually, whose delegates range from matriculants interested in studying engineering to professionals interested in Engineering Business. “I believe that every single one of us, has the responsibility to impart knowledge, the lessons we've learnt, and the experiences we've had to those who are walking the same road that we once walked. This allows us to minimize the obstacles and possibly mitigate the risks that our younger counterparts have to face”, says Bongani.
